One Photo Could Land Illinois Students $1,000 – Here’s How
An Illinois agricultural photo contest has been launched that gives young residents a chance to turn creativity into cash for college.
State Treasurer Launches 14th Annual Contest
According to a press release from Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs, the statewide "Cream of the Crop" Photography Contest is reopening for 2026, inviting students ages 8 to 18 to showcase their view of agriculture.

Now in its 14th year, the program has drawn nearly 900 participants and more than 1,600 photo submissions since its launch in 2013, underscoring its growing reach across Illinois communities.
Scholarships Aim to Boost College Savings
According to the press release, the contest offers more than just recognition, with top finishers receiving Bright Start college savings scholarships ranging from $250 to $1,000.

Winners will be selected across three age groups: 8-10, 11-14, and 15-18. A panel of outside judges will determine the top three entries in each category, with first-place winners earning the highest awards.
Entry Deadline and Broader Impact
Students can submit up to two agricultural-themed photos before the June 12, 2026, deadline. Winning images will be featured in Ag Invest promotional materials, the 2027 Cream of the Crop calendar, and displayed at the Illinois State Fair.
The contest is part of the state's Ag Invest program, one of the nation's largest agricultural-linked deposit initiatives. Officials say the program not only highlights Illinois' farming industry but also encourages youth engagement in agriculture through creativity and education.
