Governor Pritzker Orders U.S. Flag Lowering Across Illinois

U.S. and Illinois flags will be flying at half-staff throughout the state beginning July 16, following an order from Governor J.B. Pritzker.

Illinois Governor Orders Statewide Flag Lowering

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services announced via press release that the Governor has directed all persons and entities covered under the Illinois Flag Display Sct to lower United States and Illinois state flags to half-staff.

Flags will be lowered from sunrise on Thursday, July 16, 2026, and remain lowered through Saturday, July 18, 2026, in honor and remembrance of Senator Lindsey Graham.

Flag Display Act Honors Public Service and Remembrance

The Illinois Flag Display Act authorizes Governor Pritzker to order U.S. and state flags flown at half-staff to recognize individuals whose lives and service have had a significant impact on our nation.

The act also provides for flags to be lowered following the line-of-duty deaths of Illinois military members, police officers, firefighters, and other public servants covered under the law.

Flags may also be lowered following a national tragedy, natural disaster, or during annual observances like Memorial Day, Patriot Day, and Peace Officers Memorial Day.
