
Rockford Man Identified After Fatal Shooting on 7th Avenue
Local authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal shooting on the city's south side that left a Rockford man dead on Friday (7/10).
Victim Found During Welfare Check
Officials from the Winnebago County Coroner's Office were notified around 5:27 a.m. on Friday, July 10, to respond to the 700 block of 7th Avenue for a reported shooting.
Investigators said Rockford Police officers were dispatched around 5:20 a.m. to conduct a welfare check after reports of an individual lying near bushes outside a residence. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male.
Personnel from the Coroner's Office arrived on the scene around 5:46 a.m and pronounced 43-year-old Nathanael Fansler of Rockford dead.
Autopsy Confirms Cause of Death
Following an autopsy by the Winnebago County Coroner's Office, it was determined that Fansler died from a gunshot wound.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been released, and investigators have not announced whether any suspects have been identified or taken into custody.
Investigation Remains Active
The Winnebago County Coroner's Office and the Rockford Police Department continue to jointly investigate the fatal shooting.
