Rockford’s Beef-a-Roo Comeback Just Got More Real With More Help
Just a few days ago, I wrote about finally feeling hopeful that Beef-a-Roo's story wasn't over in Rockford.
Now?
That hope just got a whole lot bigger.

Will Rockford-Area Beef-a-Roo Locations Reopen?
Like so many people who have lived in the Rockford area for years, it's been heartbreaking and infuriating to witness what has happened to Beef-a-Roo restaurants in the last few years, and especially in the last few weeks.

Beef-a-Roo is more than a place to grab some darn good cheddar fries and a roast beef sandwich. It's a hometown institution that this community was proud of, and then its uniqueness and greatness slowly started to disappear.
Earlier this week, Tom & Jerry's owner Robert Grottke shared that he wanted to do everything he could to keep the Beef-a-Roo brand alive, and now that mission has taken a giant step forward.

Beef-a-Roo's Future in Rockford
According to a new report from WIFR, Robert Grottke isn't trying to save Beef-a-Roo alone anymore. He's teamed up with another well-known local business owner, Alex Edwards of Candy Cloud, to purchase Rockford-area Beef-a-Roo locations and bring them back to what we all know and love.
Edwards told WIFR:
I think Beef-a Roo is an awesome brand, and we know the potential of that brand, and we want to keep that local, keep the ownership local. We want to be in the stores and really just bring back the community part of things
That's the kind of news longtime Rockford Beef-a-Roo fans have been waiting to hear.
Beef-a-Roo's two new owners are currently hard at work to get the Rockford area restaurants back open as soon as possible.
Will they reopen overnight?
Probably not, but I do believe they'll reopen much sooner than most of us expect.
Until then, you can catch me in the drive-thru of Freeport's locally-owned Beef-a-Roo location, which IS still open and serving up all your favorite menu items!
