The Boone County Fair recently shared this year's Grandstand entertainment schedule on Facebook, and many people were shocked by one major thing that is missing from the lineup. Can you spot it?

Yes, you read that correctly. The Boone County Fair will NOT have a major country artist headlining the Grandstand on Saturday night this year. Now the big question is: why?

As someone who has attended more county fairs than I could ever begin to count, I totally understand why fans are disappointed about this big change for the 2026 Boone County Fair.

The Boone County Fair has brought in some incredible country artists over the years, and that Saturday night show in the Grandstand has become a tradition for many families and groups of friends.

However, I also believe concerts aren't what make a fair a must-visit event. The entire experience is.

What Makes County Fairs Great?

For me, a county fair has always been the place where you wander the midway with a lemonade in one hand and some kind of fried deliciousness in the other.

It's where kids get excited about the carnival rides and families spend hours checking out the livestock barns with 4-H members proudly showing off the animals they've spent months raising.

It's the excitement of the tractor pulls and demolition derbies, and all the other little moments that make county fairs feel like summer in Northern Illinois.

Sure, a big country concert is exciting, but it's only one piece of what makes the Boone County Fair such a longtime favorite.

Why Isn't There a Concert This Year at the Boone County Fair?

After decades of headliners, the fair board felt it was the right time to offer our fairgoers something different. We constantly strive to keep the fair fresh, exciting, and family oriented. This year's schedule reflects what we believe will provide a great experience, and of course, we'll continue to evaluate our entertainment each year.

Season passes for the 2026 Boone County Fair are currently on sale. One missing concert shouldn't be enough to keep an entire community away from one of Northern Illinois' best summer traditions.
