Officers are increasing patrols and educational outreach to address growing safety concerns about foot traffic, including reports of pedestrians crossing mid-block instead of using crosswalks and limited visibility at night.

Shared Responsibility for Safer Streets

Police stress that safety is a shared responsibility between drivers and pedestrians. Officials are urging residents to use designated crossings and wear reflective or high-visibility clothing when walking after dark.

Davis added that unsafe pedestrian behavior, combined with distracted driving, creates dangerous conditions that significantly increase the risk of serious injury or fatal crashes.

Rockford Police ADC Davis said they "continue to see individuals walking in traffic lanes, crossing outside of safe areas, or walking at night without reflective gear."
