American Airlines Pulls the Plug on Rockford to O’Hare Shuttle

Less than a year after launching, the American Airlines shuttle service connecting Chicago Rockford International Airport to O'Hare International Airport is officially coming to an end.

Last summer, I was genuinely excited to tell you about the new American Airlines shuttle coming to the Chicago Rockford International Airport.

This service is perfect for anyone who loves the convenience of flying out of Rockford but also wants easy access to American Airlines' route network at O'Hare... and it has been a hit with travelers.

In fact, just a few weeks ago, RFD airport officials were celebrating the program's success.  According to a WIFR article published in June:

Since the start of the partnership in October, airport leaders say ticket sales grew significantly—up nearly 400% by February and still more than 145% above launch-month levels in April.

Well, that excitement didn't last very long, and I can't help but wonder: What went wrong?

American Airlines Discontinues RFD to ORD Shuttle Service

Less than a year after launching, American Airlines has announced it is discontinuing its motorcoach service between Chicago Rockford International Airport and Chicago O'Hare International Airport leaving disappointed travelers wondering why.

According to WIFR, Chicago Rockford International Airport Executive Director Zack Oakley released a statement that said:

We are disappointed to see this service end and recognize the inconvenience it may cause our passengers. We are grateful to American Airlines and Landline for their partnership and the service they provided our community over the last several months.

Neither American Airlines nor Landline has publicly explained why the service is being discontinued, but Rockford airport officials say the service will end on October 4, 2026.
