After bringing all the sensitive plants indoors over the weekend due to the first freeze, an unexpected change in the weather is coming.

Frosty Mornings Feels Like Fall

After a rollercoaster of temperatures over the past week, going from record highs to below freezing, a much cooler weekend will bring widespread frost, chilly mornings, and plenty of sunshine to northern Illinois.

The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning for most of the Stateline area for early Saturday morning (10/17), with temperatures expected to be at or below 32 degrees.

Sunshine Returns With a Gradual Warm-Up

The weekend won't stay cold for long, with highs in the lower 60s on Sunday (10/18), although frost could develop early Sunday morning.

A warming trend will continue into next week, with highs in the upper 60s by Monday and in the lower 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday. At the same time, overnight temperatures will remain chilly, with lows dipping into the upper 30s.

Indian Summer Later in the Week?

Fall will bring a little more warmth as we get later into next week, with highs expected to climb into the lower to mid 70s on Thursday and Friday, with mostly sunny skies expected both days, according to the National Weather Service forecast for Rockford.

We could see a nice stretch of classic autumn weather with frosty morning starts, comfortable afternoons and evenings, and plenty of sunshine to enjoy the fall colors, or visit a pumpkin patch before the season ends.
