What Happened to Dos Reales? Rockford Diners Want Answers

Is Dos Reales Mexican Restaurant on East State Street in Rockford permanently closed? That is the question I'm on a mission to answer today.

At home I have two kids who often treat dinner like it's a high-stakes negotiation asking questions like:

"If I eat two more bites of meat can I have dessert?"

OR

"Can I not eat my green beans if I eat all my potatoes?"

As my kids have gotten older, they have become a tad more adventurous with the foods they will eat, but finding a restaurant we can all agree on when we go out can still be a battle.

The one thing we can usually all agree on, though? Mexican food, and Dos Reales in Rockford is one of our favorites.

Truth be told, we haven't been to Dos Reales in a while, and I was shocked to discover today that the restaurant has actually been closed since MAY!

Why Is Dos Reales Closed?

During my morning Facebook surfing session I came across a post in the What's Happening in Rockford, IL group that said:

I'm still mourning Dos Reales and hoping they open again!

Wait... what?! Dos Reales is closed? How am I just learning about this now?

After doing a little more searching in the Facebook group, I found another comment that said:

Went there last night, did not know it was closed, sign says plumbing issues!

Many commenters claimed the closure stemmed from plumbing and water issues in the building, but that was back in May. It is now almost August, so has Dos Reales provided any updates?

The short answer is: no.

Is Dos Reales Reopening Soon?

I truly hate to be the Debbie Downer here, but signs aren't looking good for Dos Reales reopening anytime soon.

There has been no action on the restaurant's social media pages in several months, and you get a "page not found" message when you go to dosrealesrockford.com which is highly concerning.

The only sliver of hope I found is that the restaurant is still listed as "temporarily closed" on Google and Yelp.

So, let's get back to my original question: Is Dos Reales in Rockford permanently closed?

I don't know, but a lot of evidence is pointing in that direction, and now I'm bummed.
