
Another Tragic Fire in Illinois Claims Life of 82-Year-Old Woman
Emergency Response to Another Residential Blaze
26 firefighters battled a residential fire on Thursday evening (2/21) that ended up claiming the life of another Illinois resident, continuing a disturbing trend of fatal fires in 2025.

According to a press release from the Rockford Fire Department, crews responded to a fire at 1904 W. Pearl on the north end of Rockford just after 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 21.
When RFD arrived on the scene, smoke and fire came from the residence, and crews were able to find a victim in the home and give her medical assistance before transporting her to a local hospital.
Woman Succumbs to Injuries Despite Efforts
Despite the immediate medical care she received, the woman, whose identity has not been released yet, died from her injuries.

The Winnebago County Coroner's Office confirmed she was pronounced deceased on Friday (2/21) at 8:58 am.
According to the press release, the cause of death was determined to be thermal injuries resulting from the fire.
Ongoing Investigation into Cause of Fire
Both the Winnebago County Coroner's Office and the Rockford Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire, which was estimated to have caused $60,000 in damages.
According to the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshall, there now have been 17 fatal fires, resulting in 20 deaths so far in 2025.s
