Governor J.B. Pritzker awarded artists, organizations, and communities across Illinois over $16 million, with the hope of expanding youth access.

Funding Expands Across Illinois

According to a press release from the Illinois Arts Council (IAC), 1,123 artists, arts organizations, and communities across the state received grants totaling $16.2 million.

Funding is aimed at strengthening Illinois' creative sector, supporting youth employment in the arts, and expanding access to community arts initiatives.

Pritzker Emphasizes State Commitment

In the press release, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said that the arts in our state help to enrich "our lives, our communities, and our culture."

With key arts funding under attack at the federal level, I’m proud that Illinois is continuously investing in our state’s talented artists, encouraging young people to pursue their passions in the arts sector, and enhancing community-wide access to arts initiatives. -J.B. Here are some of the key grant allocations for the first quarter of FY26:

  • Creative Accelerator Fund: A total of $1 million was distributed to 100 artists across all regions, each receiving a $10,000 taxable award. This fund is designed to enhance the creative workforce of Illinois.
  • General Operating Support and Youth Employment in the Arts: Over $14.6 million was awarded to 1,023 organizations, emphasizing the importance of sustainable arts programming and youth employment opportunities.
  • Regional Arts Partner Grants: With $575,000 allocated, these grants enable partner organizations to develop responsive grantmaking processes based on local community needs.

Leaders Highlight Arts' Impact

IAC Board Chair Nora Dailey said, "These grants are a powerful investment in Illinois' artists and communities."

Since 2019, IAC grants have provided more than $196 million in support for Illinois' creative ecosystem.

"The arts are a cornerstone of Illinois' identity and economy. This funding enriches our communities and inspires future generations," said IAC Executive Director Joshua Davis Ruperto.
