Major roadwork on two major Rockford streets begins this spring, with lane closures, detours, and infrastructure upgrades lasting through fall 2025.
11th Street Construction Begins April 14
Drivers in Rockford should be prepared for lane closure and detours to begin next week as the City of Rockford kicks off phase 1 of the 11th Street Reconstruction project on Monday (4/14).
This phase of work will stretch from Harrison Street to Broadway and will begin with the replacement of some major water mains along that corridor.

While the upgrades are being done, the southbound lanes of 11th Street between 23rd Avenue and Harrison will be closed. Traffic control will be in place, and be aware of detour markers in the area of the work zone.
While travel may be slow or delayed in the area, the City of Rockford assures residents that access will be open to homes and businesses, and services like mail and trash pickup will continue as usual.
