Illinois drivers should be prepared for significant road construction changes beginning Monday (6/2) that could cause delays in your commute next week.

New Traffic Pattern Coming to 11th Street Corridor

According to the City of Rockford, Phase 1 of the 11th Street Project is entering a new stage, creating a different traffic pattern to reduce travel to one lane in each direction.

Only the southbound lanes will be used on 11th Street during this updated traffic pattern.

Water main replacement efforts are continuing in the northbound lanes just north of the railroad tracks and will proceed northward. Work Zone and Detour signs have been placed, and officials remind motorists to stay alert for workers and construction equipment.

Madison Street Work Limits Access, Suspends Parking

On Madison Street, progress is continuing with the water main installation reaching Market Street.

The northbound lane from State Street to Market is now open, giving drivers access to the public parking lot behind CJ's Public House.

Madison Street will stay closed to through traffic between Market Street and Lafayette Avenue as the water main work continues to advance north.

Street parking along Madison Street is suspended during construction, so use the nearby public lots or the adjacent side street parking area.

Extensive Infrastructure Upgrades Underway

According to the City of Rockford, both projects will feature comprehensive improvements including new sidewalks and multi-use paths, upgraded storm and sanitary sewers, driveway and roadway replacements, and enhanced traffic signals.
