Governor Pritzker has ordered that both the United States flag and the Illinois state flag remain lowered until sunset on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
Requirements Under the Illinois Flag Display Act
The Illinois Flag Display Act requires flags to be flown at half-staff to honor Illinois members of the armed forces, police, fire service, and other covered groups who are killed in the line of duty.
In those cases, flags are lowered from sunrise to sunset on the day of the funeral, and for the two days immediately preceding.
In addition to these requirements through the Illinois Flag Display Act, the governor may issue proclamations directing flags to half-staff to recognize individuals whose impact reaches across Illinois and the nation.
Public Buildings Expected to Comply
According to the press release, this directive from Governor Pritzker applies to state-operated facilities and any entity legally required to comply with the Act.

Schools, government offices, and other public buildings occupied by agency personnel are expected to observe the order through March 7.
