A popular Southern fast-casual chicken chain has just entered the Illinois market, opening its first-ever location in the Land of Lincoln this week.

First Illinois Location Opens in Plainfield

The brand was founded in 1990 in Atlanta and has expanded to more than 1,000 locations in 22 states, but has not had a location in Illinois until now.

Known for its chicken-finger meals, wings, salads, and signature sauces, Zaxby's will have its grand opening on Tuesday (2/24) in Plainfield, Illinois, on Route 59, about a 90-minute drive from Rockford.

The Brand Behind the Expansion

Zaxby's is a Southern favorite that built its identity around "Southern hospitality" paired with a modern fast-casual model. While it has long maintained a strong presence in the Southeastern U.S. states, Illinois represents new territory.

While there are currently Zaxby's locations in Indiana, there are none in Wisconsin, Iowa, or Minnesota, but with the first restaurant opening in Illinois, this is a potential testing ground for a broader Midwest expansion.

According to industry analysts, Illinois' chicken restaurant segment is saturated and makes the state a competitive but strategic market for national brands seeking growth beyond their regional strongholds.

Ribbon Cutting Event Set for February 24

To celebrate their Illinois debut, Zaxby's will be hosting a ribbon-cutting celebration on Tuesday, February 24, from 10 am to 2 pm, with the first 50 guests in line winning "Free Chicken for a Year" through an exclusive Deck of Dealz promotion.

Prizes include Big Zak Snack Meals, Signature Sandwiches, Zax Kids Meals, and Boneless wings.

Guests who stop in can also spin the prize wheel for additional giveaways and Chicago-branded merchandise while supplies last.
