For the first time in years, Woodfield Mall is closing on Thanksgiving and waiting hours to reopen on Black Friday.

I've loved Black Friday shopping for at least ten years. My mom and I make a point to wake up early and get the deals in our pajamas before the regular people wake up looking refreshed. We like to be done by noon and head home to go back to sleep. It's actually really fun.

What's not fun is when Woodfield Mall and other retailers decide to stay open all day and night on Thanksgiving through Black Friday.

After a few years of that madness, it seems like this year things are getting back to what my mom and I love. Early mornings at the mall, not late nights.

Woodfield is still opening on Thanksgiving, at 5 p.m. but only staying open until midnight and then closing up for six entire hours.

Black Friday hours at Woodfield will be from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.

I would prefer if the mall wasn't open at all on Thanksgiving, but at least this gives employees and shoppers a chance to cool it overnight and get some sleep!
