Everything You Need to Know About Monday's Major Rockford Road Closure

Construction on a major thoroughfare in the Forest City will begin next week, and motorists who travel in the area should plan for delays.

According to a press release from the City Engineer/Interim Public Works Director for the City of Rockford, Starting Monday, November 18, 2024, westbound Whitman Street will be closed to through traffic from North Main Street to North Church Street for critical water main repairs.

This closure, weather permitting, is expected to last until Friday, November 22, 2024.

Traffic Adjustments and Detour Plans

Drivers traveling northbound on North Main Street should prepare for reduced traffic lanes at the Whitman Street and North Main Street intersection.

To ensure safety, the City of Rockford will implement marked detour routes and appropriate traffic control measures. Commuters are encouraged to allow extra time for their travel.

 Local Access Maintained

Rockford residents in the affected area can rest assured that they will retain full access to their homes. Mail services, deliveries, trash pickup, and emergency services will continue without disruption, according to the press release.

Improvements Funded by City Initiatives

This essential project is funded by Rockford's 1% Infrastructure Sales Tax, the Water Replacement Improvement Account, and the Four Rivers Sanitation Authority, reflecting the city’s commitment to improving its infrastructure.
