An urgent response unfolded at the Blackhawk Springs Forest Preserve on Thursday night (8/8), according to a press release from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., a coordinated effort from Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies, Cherry Valley Police Officers, Rockford Park District Officers, and Cherry Valley Fire Protection District personnel was initiated after two individuals, a 22-year-old male and a 16-year-old female, were discovered unresponsive in a vehicle.

Paramedics arrived swiftly and began life-saving measures on the scene. Despite their efforts, the male occupant was pronounced deceased upon arrival at a local hospital.

The female, in critical condition, was initially transported to a nearby hospital before being airlifted to a medical facility in Madison for further treatment. Her condition remains serious, and her recovery is closely monitored.
