Drivers in Rockford should plan ahead if 11th Street is part of their route. Closures are coming on Monday (5/5).

According to a press release from the City of Rockford, Phase 1 of the 11th Street Reconstruction will be entering a new stage on Monday, which will close traffic on this major roadway.

Both southbound and northbound lanes between 23rd Avenue and Harrison Avenue will be closed to through traffic for one day to allow for critical water service crossing installations.

The northbound lanes are expected to reopen by the morning of Tuesday, May 6.

Detours and Safety Measures in Place

To help manage the disruption, clearly marked detour routes and traffic control measures will be in place.

Motorists are encouraged to follow posted signage and exercise caution through the areas as construction workers and equipment will be active throughout the area.

Access Maintained for Local Needs

Despite the closure to through traffic, access will still be maintained for residents, businesses, emergency vehicles, mail carriers, trash collection, and deliveries.

City officials stress the importance of driver awareness to ensure the safety of those working within the construction zone.

Scope of Reconstruction Project

The 11th Street project is a major infrastructure upgrade for the area, including roadway removal and replacement, driveway and sidewalk improvements, a new multi-use path, curb and gutter enhancements, and more.

As the project continues to move forward, residents are urged to stay informed and remain patient while these vital improvements are completed.
