Drivers around Rockford are being warned about major traffic impacts as two separate infrastructure projects begin this week.

Lead Service Line Project Triggers Prospect Street Closure

Prepare for another round of significant road construction and traffic delays as the City of Rockford begins lead service line replacement work on North Prospect Street starting this Thursday, May 21.

The project is part of the city's ongoing effort to eliminate aging lead water service lines and improve public infrastructure across Illinois.

Construction crews will excavate multiple locations along North Prospect Street between East State Street and Rural Street to abandon old lead service lines tied to the city's water system.

Because of the work, North Prospect Street will be closed to through traffic in that stretch beginning Thursday (5/21). All homes and businesses in the construction area will remain accessible, with detours redirecting drivers west toward Summit Street from both East State Street and Rural Street intersections.
