Veterans

During Sunday nights Blackhawks game I saw a story about an organization that the team supports called Rags of Honor. This company helps our returning veterans and those that are homeless get back on their feet while providing job training.

Veteran’s Day is coming up on Wednesday. November 11th is the day we celebrate the women and men who make the ultimate sacrifice for our country everyday. Take a moment and thank a service man or woman.

This is such a cool, inspiring and easy way to support our veterans. You can do it by leaving a green light on for them.

Going to college can be a bit overwhelming for anyone. In the case for veterans returning to school it is even more daunting. That's why one NIU student group is helping them acclimate to living a civilian life as a student.

When local veteran Jim Buckingham left the military in 1984 he found himself struggling to readjust, which eventually led to a life on the streets. That life is something Buckingham hopes to prevent for other local veterans, and he has an awesome five year plan to get it done.

A local Vietnam Veteran will be honored in Washington D.C.

Coming on the heels of Memorial Day I thought this was a really cool story. A lost purple heart medal was found and returned to a family who thought they'd never see it again.

Rockford Airfest needs your help to honor area veterans at their show, coming up the weekend of June 6th and 7th.

I recycle as much as I can. Sometimes though the plastic grocery bags I get from the stores seem to multiply like rabbits. I reuse them for trash bags but I still seem to have more than enough. Now I know what else they can be used for! The Loves Park chapter of the VFW Post 9759, takes ordinary plastic shopping bags and turns them into beds!
