When local veteran Jim Buckingham left the military in 1984 he found himself struggling to readjust, which eventually led to a life on the streets. That life is something Buckingham hopes to prevent for other local veterans, and he has an awesome five year plan to get it done.

Buckingham wants to raise $500,000 to refurbish 25 deserted homes in Winnebago County, and he hopes to have this all accomplished in a five year time span. Once these homes are finished, he plans to turn the keys over to homeless veterans with disabilities who would only be responsible for paying the property taxes.

So far city and county leaders are on board with this plan, but are still working out the details.
