The Carson Pirie Scott in Matteson suddenly closed on Sunday.

Could Rockford's Bergner's be next?

NBC Chicago reports that on Sunday employees arrived to the store only to find the doors lock and signs on the doors saying the store was closed.

The closure came with no warning to the employees and the village officials of Matteson.

The shocking fact of the Carson's doors being shuttered is that this store was not on the list to be closed. Last year " Carson’s had announced dozens of closures, but the Matteson location was not on the list of impacted stores."

In a letter to employees, the company explained why the Matteson store closed:

“After further analysis of our Matteson store with our assistance of our real estate team and financial advisors, senior management made the difficult decision to close the location.”

So what happens to the employees?

Apparently, "employees were told that they could apply or be transferred to other nearby stores, with the closest locations in Hammond, Indiana and in Orland Park."

Wow! That's terrible. I feel for them. i can only imagine the panic they felt and now the stress as they're left scrambling for a job.

I only hope something like this doesn't happen to the Bergner's, who's owned by Carson's, in Rockford. That would be awful.

First, for just closing like that with no warning or heads up to the employees.

Two, for the customers like me. I love shopping there. I find a lot of great deals. Especially their "Yellow Dot Sale".
