Growing up in Northern Illinois, I have several fond memories of shopping at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, Illinois.

When I was in high school, Spring Hill Mall was the place we went to find the perfect homecoming or prom dress when we didn't want to deal with the crowds at Woodfield Mall or the drive to Chicago. When I started driving, Spring Hill was the first out-of-town mall my parents let me visit with friends.

I haven't been to Spring Hill Mall in decades, but seeing this video really takes me back:

Spring Hill Mall officially closed on March 22, 2024, and now just over a year later, demolition of the building has officially begun.

Here's some footage from the first day of demolition of Spring Hill Mall:

@nbcchicagoIt's officially the end of an era at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee. Demolition on the 45-year-old suburban mall, which closed its doors in 2024, began last week. Tap the 🔗 in our bio for details #springhillmall #westdundee #dundee #illinois #mall♬ original sound - NBC Chicago

What's Next For the Former Spring Hill Mall Location?

Demolition of Spring Hill Mall is expected to cost over $3 million dollars and should be completed by the end of November, but no concrete plans for what the space will be turned into have been revealed yet.

An article from NBC Chicago says;

Several aspirational plans have been raised for the redevelopment of mall following the initial demolition, but development could take between five and 20 years. One proposed plan shows a "scaled-up downtown model," with a new residential neighborhood as well as areas for mixed-use retail, recreation, hospitality and more.

I'm hoping we won't wait have to wait 5 to 20 years to find out what this soon-to-vacant-space becomes!
