Do you often find yourself grabbing a bag of popcorn at the gas station, sneaking cookies after dinner, or convincing yourself that a Rice Krispie treat counts as a "light snack"? Congratulations...you're fitting right in with the rest of Illinois.

National Junk Food Day

If there's one thing I will never pretend to have under control, it's my sweet tooth, and when you look through the answers of this question, it appears I'm not alone:

Don't get me wrong, I love chips and dip, tacos, and other salty snacks, but I have turned them down without a second thought. Put a cupcake, cookie, or brownie anywhere within eyesight, though? Game over for me.

So, when I saw that Illinois is one of the biggest snack-loving states in America, my first thought was, "Yep...that checks."

Illinois' Favorite Snack

A recent study from Hard Rock Bet looked at snacking habits across all 50 states by analyzing convenience store availability, online snack searches, and how much people spend on food away from home. Any guesses where Illinois landed on the list of America's biggest snack-loving states?

Number five. California landed at the top of the list, followed by Texas, New York, and Florida.

Now that we know Illinoisans love to get their snack on, the biggest question is: what is the number one snack this state reaches for?

According to data analyzed by Hard Rock Bet, these are Illinois' top 10 favorite snacks based on search popularity:

  1. Popcorn
  2. Cupcakes
  3. Chocolate chip cookies
  4. Walnuts
  5. Rice cakes
  6. Pretzels
  7. Peanuts
  8. Rice Krispie treats
  9. Brownies
  10. Sugar cookies

I have to admit, I wasn't expecting walnuts and rice cakes to crash the junk food party, but I'm happy to see many people in Illinois have the same sweet tooth problem I do.

Now I'm curious. If you had to choose one snack to eat for the rest of your life from the list above, which one would you choose?
