If you're a fan of the History Channel show American Pickers or you're a collector with some cool stuff to unload in Illinois, I've got some good news to share with you.

American Pickers Fans

If there's one TV show that can stop my husband in his tracks with the remote, it's American Pickers.

I can't count how many times I've walked through the living room and found him glued to Mike Wolfe digging through a dusty old barn, and worried my husband will decide his new hobby should be collecting.

I'll admit it... after watching enough episodes with him, I'm a fan of the show too, and I've started looking at old "junk" a little differently these days.

I've also watched the show enough to know that Illinois has been one of American Pickers' favorite states to stop in over the years.

Mike Wolfe and the crew have made multiple stops throughout Illinois, including Rockford when they stopped at the Burpee Museum and picked Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick's warehouse of rock-and-roll memorabilia.

Now here comes the exciting news... the American Pickers crew is heading back to Illinois in September, and this could be your chance to be featured on the show!

American Pickers Coming to Illinois

An article from Yahoo! Entertainment says American Pickers producers will be traveling throughout Illinois and Iowa in September, and they need tips on cool collections to pick.

Producers are searching for private collections packed with rare, unusual, and historically significant items. (no antique stores, flea markets, museums, or businesses open to the public.)

They want to meet everyday people who have spent years collecting and have amazing stories to share about the items.

Here are some of the things they are most interested in seeing:

  • Motorcycles and scooters

  • Old signs and advertising materials

  • Vintage toys

  • Oil and gas station memorabilia

  • Pedal cars and bicycles

  • Early furniture

  • Vending machines

  • Pinball machines and jukeboxes

  • Folk art

  • Military items

  • Taxidermy

  • Unusual collections

If you think your collection fits the bill, send your name, city, phone number, photos, and a description of your items to americanpickers@cineflix.com.

And if my husband has taught me anything after countless episodes of American Pickers, it's this: never underestimate what's hiding under 40 years of dust. Better start digging through those attics, sheds, and basements now!
