
Nyla Brings Dangerous Weather to Illinois. Blizzards in Wisconsin, Iowa
The Weather Channel has named this Winter Storm "Nyla." This latest round of severe weather headed to the Stateline area will include everything from dangerous thunderstorms to significant snow accumulation.
Blizzards in the Plains and Western States
Residents in the Rockford region and Chicagoland should be on high alert for dangerous severe weather in the next two to three days as these storms make their way into the upper Midwest.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy snowfall, damaging winds, and blizzard conditions have already prompted weather warnings in some states out west and across the Plains.
Blizzard and Winter Weather Warnings are Active
As Winter Storm Nyla approaches Illinois, the National Weather Service is forecasting a series of weather changes.

In Iowa, a Blizzard Warning is in effect until Wednesday (3/19) for portions of west central, north central, and central Iowa where 2 to 10 inches of snow accumulation is possible by Wednesday night with 60+ mph wind gusts.
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for northern Wisconsin until 10 pm Wednesday with 4 to 10 inches of snow accumulation and a light ice glaze is possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Mixture of Thunderstorms and Snowy Mix for Illinois
Portions of downstate Illinois are currently under a Red Flag Warning until Wednesday (3/19) at 7 pm, according to the N.W.S.
With low humidity, mild temperatures, and gusty winds, there's an elevated risk of fire danger. Any fire that develops will spread quickly, and outdoor burning is not recommended, according to the National Weather Service.
With Winter Storm Nyla sweeping across the country and into the Stateline, it begins with thunderstorms on Wednesday, some could be severe. Thunderstorms and rain will turn to all snow late on Wednesday night and overnight into Thursday morning (3/20).
About an inch or 2 of accumulation is expected in the Rockford area, with some areas potentially getting more, and others not getting any flurries.

Given the changing weather conditions for the Midwest region that could have everything from Blizzards to Severe Thunderstorms, here are a few things to keep yourself safe:
- Stay informed by listening for updates and checking latest forecasts from the National Weather Service.
- Secure property to ensure nothing can be damaged as strong winds move through.
- Plan travel accordingly and make sure to check road conditions from the Illinois Department of Transportation, or in Wisconsin use 511.gov.
