As the parent of a Rockford Public Schools student, it seems like we're always writing a check for something they need or want to do at school. I know this is the case for most students in every district across the country, but the pocketbook of Rockford Public Schools parents will get a nice little break next year thanks to this new vote from the RPS board.

WIFR reports;

The costs for the programs will be covered by an increase in the state's new funding model called evidence-based funding.

Superintendent Ehren Jarrett says this is the right move for students, and if they want to be involved cost should not be barrier.

So, what's the catch? There's no catch per say, but parents should know students will still be required to pay fees for optional items like parking permits, driver education classes and summer school.
