A teen is facing several serious charges after local law enforcement responded to an incident on the city's southeast side.

Teen Located Near 11th Street and 5th Avenue

According to a Rockford Police Department press release, SCOPE officers were patrolling the area of 11th Street and 5th Avenue around 9:50 pm on Tuesday (5/6) when they were alerted of a potentially armed individual.

Officers located a 16-year-old male from Rockford who was in possession of a loaded handgun equipped with an extended magazine and a laser/light attachment.

Rockford Police also recovered approximately 35 grams of cannabis from the individual before he was transported to the Juvenile Detention facility.

State's Attorney Authorizes Multiple Charges

After reviewing the facts in the case, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office has approved the following charges against the 16-year-old male from Rockford:

  • Armed Violence
  • Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis
  • No Valid FOID

Due to his age, the suspect's name has not been released, and all charges are accusations. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
