Illinois Governor Pritzker Rolls Out Red Carpet to Canadian Visitors
In celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week (May 4-10), Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is rolling out the red carpet for Canadian travelers.
A Heartfelt Invitation Across the Border
In a video message just released from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Governor Pritzker encourages Canadians to rediscover Illinois and reminds our neighbors to the north of the state's longstanding friendship with Canada.
I want to reassure you that we’re as eager as ever to have you come here. Midwest nice is the closest thing to Canadian hospitality you can get south of Windsor. -Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker
Canada: Illinois' Top International Visitor Market
A record 112 million visitors came to Illinois in 2023, with tourism spending hitting $47 billion, up $3 billion from 2022.
Canada led the international visitor segment with over 627,000 travelers, showing its importance as Illinois' tourism partner.
According to the report, visitor spending supported over 278,000 jobs and helped pump over $4.6 billion into local and state tax revenues, showing the impact of tourism on Illinois' economy.
Campaigns and Collaborations Driving Growth
Illinois is launching a new social media campaign targeting Canadians using platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

According to the press release, partnerships made with Expedia and Brand USA aim to reach travelers who are on Spotify, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.
This campaign is building on earlier initiatives that were also geared toward our neighbors to the North, including Illinois' presence at the Toronto Outdoor Adventure Show, and Governor Pritzker's 2023 trade mission to Canada.
The message is clear from "the Middle of Everything" to Canada. Illinois is ready to welcome visitors with open arms and invite travelers to find out more at EnjoyIllinois.com.
