"RockFred" will be back in his hometown on Friday (6/14) for a street party that will cause some traffic detours during the afternoon rush hour.

Auburn High School graduate and NBA Champion Fred VanVleet is hosting the annual VanVleet Family Foundation's FVV Block Party beginning at 4 pm this afternoon (Friday) in the 300 block of E. State Street.

The party will include several events including a 1-on-1 completion, speed shots, and a 3-point contest with cash prizes to the winner.

The FVV Block Party will be at 333 E. State Street from 4 pm to 6 pm on Friday, June 14, 2024. Food trucks, bounce houses, and other fun activities for kids and families will be happening during the event.

State Street Becomes VanVleet Street for Block Party on Friday Until 7 pm

According to the City of Rockford, State Street will be closed from Madison Street to 1st Street beginning at 3 pm today (Friday 6/14).

If you're heading west on State Street, you're urged to use Jefferson St., and eastbound traffic should use Chestnut Street until roads reopen at 7 pm.

Traffic from crowds attending tonight's City Market will also cause delays and parking issues so be prepared if you're heading into Downtown Rockford tonight.

Fred VanVleet's Summer Basketball Camp in Rockford

Besides the FVV Block Party on Friday, the 2024 Summer Basketball Camp will be held this Saturday (6/15) and Sunday (6/16) for boys and girls in grades K-12.

The camp will run from 11 am to 3 pm both days at the UW Sports Factory with free registration. "All Camp kids will receive a T-shirt, lunch, and training from Fred VanVleet’s expert staff," according to the FVV website.
