Rockford Police were able to capture a suspect who has allegedly run from RPD officers on multiple occasions, but he didn't go down without damaging several police vehicles.

Suspect Slams Rockford Police Cars at Harrison Avenue Gas Station

At approximately 9:30 pm on Monday night (6/24) officers from the Rockford Police SCOPE unit observed a man who had recently fled from police at the Harrison Avenue Fas Fuel gas station filling up his vehicle.

When SCOPE officers began to approach the suspect's vehicle at the gas pump, the man entered his vehicle and attempted to drive away.

While trying to flee the scene, the suspect then rammed into 3 different Rockford Police squad cars before he was stopped and taken into custody after a brief struggle, according to the report.

Suspect in Burglary at Local Hospitals is Arrested

The suspect identified as 36-year-old Steve Taylor of Rockford was taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries, while one Rockford Police officer was also treated for minor injuries and released.

During a search of Taylor's vehicle, officers found "a loaded firearm with two magazines (one was extended), cannabis, and Ecstasy pills."

Suspect Now Faces 11 Charges

After his arrest, Taylor was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail, and faces the following charges:

  • Armed Violence
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon
  • Aggravated Fleeing to Elude
  • Criminal Damage to Government Property (3 counts)
  • Aggravated Resisting Arrest
  • Violation of the Controlled Substance Act
  • Revoked Driver’s License
  • Outstanding Warrants (2)

According to the Rockford Police press release, the charges against Steve Taylor are "merely accusations, and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law."
