A Rockford man faces multiple charges after officers attempted to stop him early on Wednesday morning when he was seen driving a stolen vehicle.

According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, SCOPE Officers from RPD located a stolen vehicle that was at S. Central and Lincoln Avenue around 12:40 am on Wednesday (6/19).

The vehicle drove away and hit a parked car while officers were watching, then the occupant exited the vehicle and fled before a Rockford Police K9 caught him and officers took him into custody.

During their investigation, SCOPE officers also discovered the suspect had cocaine on him.

41-year-old Benard Beard of Rockford now faces a half dozen charges after being arrested:

  • Vehicular Hijacking
  • Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Aggravated Fleeing
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
