Back in November the Salvation Army of Winnebago County got a big donation. An anonymous donor dropped a 10-ounce silver bar in a local kettle. The silver bar was worth an estimated $235 and provided 14 bags of groceries to families in need in Winnebago County.

Sounds like something straight out of a Hallmark Holiday movie. And even though Christmas is over, the community is still spreading joy and donating. WTVO details -

The Salvation Army says an anonymous donor dropped an Austrian gold coin in a red kettle at the Schnucks on E. State Street, worth about $750.

Right now the Salvation Army of Winnebago County has a fundraising goal of $15,000. They have currently raised almost $10,000. The Red Kettle Campaign runs through January 31st. An easy way to donate is to drop some cash into a red bucket when you're out shopping or running errands. But an even easier way is to donate online.

The Salvation Army's website has options for you to donate and also has options for you to fundraise for things like coats, food, shelter, and other essentials.

Every donation matters, whether it's $1 or $1,000, it all helps tremendously.

This year, the need is greater than ever. More families are facing homelessness. More people can’t afford food. And more parents won’t be able to provide Christmas gifts for their children. But you can help rescue Christmas. When you make a gift, we can help a family in desperate need, right here in our hometown. This year, you can rescue Christmas.

So don't let the season of giving be over yet, help fill the red kettles across the Stateline until January 31. Donate HERE.
