As you begin to plan your Thanksgiving feast for Illinois family and friends, there's one dish you might want to leave off the menu this year.

Thanksgiving Plans in Illinois

The other day I received a text from my aunt inviting my family to celebrate Thanksgiving at her house this year. The text included the time for the celebration, a few fun turkey emojis and the dreaded statement; "just let me know if you can come and what dish you'd like to bring".

Yikes. I can't cook and I far prefer when I'm told what to bring by the family members who are hosting, which usually involves bringing rolls or appetizers. (You know, simple things I can't mess up.)

Since cooking is not my thing and I have no ideas for what dish to make besides the "usuals", I decided to do a little Googling for inspiration. (Because I don't think volunteering to bring a cranberry can will cut it.)

The Most Hated Thanksgiving Dish in Illinois

Instead of finding inspiration during my search I found this map on Threads that stopped me in my tracks...

Excuse me, what? Illinois hates green bean casserole the most?!? I can't wrap my head around this.

Do Illinoisans hate it simply because it is a staple at most holiday celebrations and they are just sick of eating it?

Does the texture of the dish put people off?

My taste palette may be far from sophisticated, but I happen to think green bean casserole is the preferred way to eat veggies during the holiday season...plus it looks a whole lot more appealing than cranberry that sill has can lines in it! Maybe that's just me?
