Midwest High School Bans Uniformed Marine From Graduation Ceremony
What were they thinking? How could a high school bar a uniformed Marine PFC from his own high school commencement? It happened this past week and people are furious..
Yeah, school rules need to be followed, but this is just unpatriotic. According to NBC 5 in Chicago, PFC. Jacob Stanley, who attended Crown Point High School, was all set to graduate this past weekend, as part of the class of 2017 commencement ceremonies, when he was informed by school administration that he would not be allowed to wear his marine uniform.
Last Friday, Stanley flew home after graduating from Marine boot camp to attend practice for his school's commencement exercises, when he was informed by school Principal Chip Pettit, that he was forbidden from wearing his Marine uniform.
According to Fox News Principal Pettit said:
We have continued wearing the traditional gown, as this is the last formal event of the year and a celebration of the time our graduating seniors have spent at Crown Point High School. This tradition is not intended to be disrespectful to students, parents, or our community, but as a source of pride for our students. It is also not intended to be disrespectful to our students choosing to serve in the military, our active duty servicemen and women and our veterans. We are forever grateful for the sacrifices that they make on a daily basis for our freedom.
Needless to say social media went nuts with criticism of school administration on the school's Facebook Page. Exercise caution if you choose to read the comments as lots of four letter words pop up.
Commentator Gary Tillery summed the sentiments of a lot of people by saying:
A Marine is good enough to die for your freedoms, but not good enough to cross your stage during graduation. This school and administration are truly hypocrites. How can any graduate from this school this year take pride in this year graduation.
Here is a young man that will serve and could die for our country and the school is unwilling to allow him to show his respect for our country.
Is this the rule with all high schools? No. At Hobart high School, which is located near Crown Point High School, another graduate was allowed to wear her Marine uniform in a commencement exercise that took place on June 1st.
This tells me the Crown point High School could change its rules if it chose to do so. Stanley was denied a once in a life time opportunity by Crown Point High School Administration
