Help Honor Fallen Illinois Marine Nathan Carlson As He Returns Home This Week

A Machesney Park family will be welcoming home their fallen husband, son, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend this week, and we need to be there to show our respect and support.

The Life of Marine Corporal Nathan Carlson

According to his obituary, Nathan Carlson entered the Marine corp right after graduating from Harlem High School in 2019. After he completed boot camp, Nathan quickly rose up the Marine ranks and earned the title of Corporal in September of 2020. After returning from deployment in 2021, Nathan married the "love of his life", Emily Baxter, and it's beyond heartbreaking that their time together got cut way too short.

The Body of Marine Corporal Nathan Carlson Makes Its Journey Home

Marine Corporal Nathan Carlson of Machesney Park, and four other Marines, were killed on June 8, 2022, when the Osprey they were flying crashed during a training session in California. On Thursday, (June 30), this hero will be returning home, and we all have the chance to show our respect for the grieving family and friends he left behind.

This Thursday, June 30, the Stateline community has been asked to line the streets in support as Corporal Carlson's body makes its journey from O'Hare Airport to Machesney Park. I recently came upon this request in the What's Happening in Belvidere, IL? Facebook group that said in part;

His remains will arrive at O’Hare Airport on June 30th at approximately 4:30pm. He will be escorted to Machesney Park, IL to prepare his funeral. Our goal is to line every single overpass from O’Hare to Loves Park, safely. He deserves this and we want his family to see how much we appreciate his service and known sacrifice.

Corporal Carlson's funeral will take place this Saturday, July 2, 2022, starting at 2:30 p.m. at Harlem High School. There will also be a Marine flyover following the service. So as you see those planes flying in the sky this weekend, please take a moment to pray for the extraordinary sacrifice and family of Marine Corporal Nathan Carlson.
