All U.S. flags will be lowered to half-staff this week after an order from Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.

A Statewide Tribute of Respect

Governor Pritzker has ordered all U.S. and Illinois flags to be flown at half-staff across the state in honor of former Vice President Dick Cheney's passing.

According to the press release from the Department of Central Management Services, this order applies to all persons and entities covered under the Illinois Flag Display Act.

The Meaning Behind the Half-Staff Order

The Illinois Flag Display Act requires flags to be lowered as a sign of mourning and respect for distinguished public figures, as well as members of the military, police, and fire services who lose their lives in the line of duty.

According to the Governor's order, flags should remain at half-staff until sunset on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Honoring the Former Vice President

The proclamation to lower flags is made in recognition of former Vice President Cheney's decades of public service and his significant influence on national policy during his time in office.
