With the days getting colder, this makes for a good time to enjoy delicious soups, stews and other crock-pot meals to fill you up not to mention warm you up.

What goes better with soups and stews than a side of tasty bread.

Make this easy beer bread for your next meal. That's right! I said beer bread! It truly can't get any better then that. Unless of course it's easy and only requires 6 ingredients. Which, by the way, this bread does.

I love the fact that you basically put everything in one bowl to mix then put into a loaf pan to bake. Not a whole lot of dish washing required and clean up is a breeze. Big pluses on my list for baking!

  • 3 cups spelt or white flour (I used regular with flour)
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar or date sugar (I used brown Sugar)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • optional, 2 cups shredded cheese
  • 12 oz beer of choice (I used Shock Top Honey Crisp. Made it sweet.)
  • optional, pats of buttery spread

Preheat oven to 350 F and grease a 9×5 loaf pan. In a large bowl, stir all dry ingredients very well. When the oven reaches the desired temperature, pour the liquid on top and stir until just evenly incorporated. Be sure not to mix too long or too vigorously. If desired, place pats of buttery spread along the top of the bread. Place on the middle rack and bake 45-55 minutes or until the loaf has risen, the top is firm, and a toothpick comes out clean from the center.

The bread came out great. Using the Shock Top Honey Crisp beer gave it a sweet taste. It tasted good buttered and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.

However, I think next time I will put in the shredded cheese to give it more of a cheesy flavor and will add the pats of butter on top.
