City of Rockford Announces Tree & Storm Debris Drop-off Locations

After last week's storm, which brought not one but to tornadoes to Rockford, the cleanup process is still underway.

The City of Rockford announced two tree and storm debris drop-off locations, one on each side of the city. Both locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from today through Sunday, August 30. There will be posted signs indicating where residents will unload their own trucks and trailers. But, be warned, there will be cameras monitoring drop-offs in the event someone dumps non-vegetation items. Residents who break the rule will be ticketed for illegal dumping.

Only vegetation such as trees, tree limbs and brush may be dropped off.

The drop-off locations are: City Yards - 523 S. Central Avenue and Rock Valley College – 3301 N. Mulford Road, Lot 10.

There is more good news, yard waste pickup through Rock River Disposal, within the city of Rockford, has been extended.

To be eligible for RRD pick up, yard waste material must be placed in compostable paper bags or in 32 gallon or smaller refuse cans that have been marked with a large “X” that is plainly visible from the street.

Twigs, branches and other types of large brush that cannot fit into either of these containers must be placed in bundles no more than 4 feet long by 2 feet in diameter.

Branches and limbs exceeding 4 inches in diameter will not be accepted. Bundles should be tied with string or twine, not metal.

Additional restrictions to yard waste collection include tree stumps and roots balls. No bag, can or bundle can weigh more than 50 pounds when loaded.

Yard waste cannot be mixed with regular garbage nor placed in plastic bags for pickup.
