My Favorite Store Growing Up Closed Back in the 90's

Growing up in the Midwest one of my favorite places to ride my bike to was Woolworth. There was everything a 10-year-old could need at this corner store where I could grab a couple of 45's and a packet of Fun Dip.

For those who are 30 or younger, a 45 is a vinyl record that would have one song on each side of it that can be listened to on a record player. And if you don't know what Fun Dip is, basically it's flavored sugar that you eat with a stick of sugar.

The last Woolworths in the U.S. closed in 1997, but there's still a store located in Mexico according to Forbes.

Popular National Chain Stores Closing Locations in IL, WI, IN

It doesn't seem like any national chain stores are exempt from closing down after we've gotten news over the past couple of years about Walgreens, Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, Rite Aid, and even some Walmarts permanently closing stores in parts of the country.

There's another huge furniture chain that recently announced its plan to do some "restructuring" which means stores will be closing forever.

National Chain Based in Illinois Has Filed for Bankruptcy

The Chicago-based furniture chain RoomPlace has been in operation since 1912 and has announced they are filing for "Chapter 11 restructuring that will include the closing of eight stores," according to FurnitureToday.

Indiana will lose 6 locations of RoomPlace that are all in or around the Indianapolis area. One store in Wisconsin will close on Green Bay Road in Kenosha.

In Illinois, the only location that will be closing is located at the Northwoods Mall in Peoria.

Jobs of 83 people will be affected by the RoomPlace closures and at the time this article was published there was no closing date set.
