Did you know Sheboygan, Wisconsin is called the "Malibu of the Midwest"? I didn't either, until today.

Things Illinoisans Love About Wisconsin

I've lived in Northern Illinois all my life so I feel pretty confident saying, Illinoisans know a lot about what Wisconsin has to offer. We love to visit, fish, boat, and enjoy Wisconsin's lakes. We crave their Spotted Cow beer and fantastic fish fries, and some of us love their professional football team too.

I have spent more days that I can count enjoying Wisconsin and its numerous attractions, but today I learned something new, specifically about Sheboygan, and quite honestly, I am shook.

Shocking Fact About Sheboygan, Wisconsin

The last few days have been very "wintery" in Illinois, and I know it has been in Wisconsin too. So, when I noticed this on Travel Wisconsin's Facebook as I was sitting in my chair wrapped in a blanket and still freezing, I had to do a double take...

Surely Travel Wisconsin shared that pic to provide warm summer thoughts and people aren't actually surfing in Wisconsin during the winter, right?!? WRONG!

It turns out, surfing the Great Lakes is a BIG thing in Sheboygan, Wisconsin...especially during the winter. Here's why according to Travel Wisconsin;

Sheboygan’s peak surf season runs late August through early April (appealing to the polar bears among us).

Obviously, Sheboygan's brand of surfing isn't the kind with turquoise water and palm trees, but experienced surfers love to ride its fresh water waves...even when it's freezing!

If you think you've got what it takes to surf the Great Lakes, or you want to give it a try for the very first time, grab yourself a THICK wetsuit and check out EOS Surf & Outdoor in Sheboygan for lessons, gear, and more.

Good luck!
