Whitman Street Closed Over Serious Hit and Run

According to the Rockford Police Department, around 7:40 this morning officers arrived at the 700 block of Whitman street responding to a report of a hit and run between a vehicle and a pedestrian. an 18-year-old male was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. The vehicle in question, a large tan SUV fled the scene. The pedestrian sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The Rockford Police Department Traffic Accident Reconstruction team is now on scene with the investigation. No further details have been mentioned at this time but Whitman street from Ridge and Winnebago will remain closed and blocked for several hours.
