Rockford residents are invited to a ceremonial reading of the Declaration of Independence that will mark the 250th anniversary of its first presentation.

A Historic Moment Returns to Rockford

A piece of American history will come to life in Rockford on Wednesday, July 8, as the Kishwaukee Chapter of the Illinois Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) hosts a ceremonial reading of the Declaration of Independence at Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum.

The free event begins at 4:30 p.m., with the reading scheduled to start at 5 p.m., the exact time marking 250 years since the Declaration was first read publicly on July 8, 1776.
