Think twice before ignoring railroad crossing signs here in Illinois or you'll be paying a really steep fine.

ABC7 Chicago reports that Governor Rauner just signed a new law "that doubles the fine" for ignoring the lights at railroad crossings.

If you're caught going through crossings when the lights are flashing and/ or driving around the gates you "will face a $500 penalty. For each offense after that, the fine goes up to $1,000."

OUCH! That is steep.

So ask yourself next time you tempted to speed speed through those warnings, "Is it worth it?" Umm, Yeah...I don't think so. Unless, of course, you like throwing your money away, then go right ahead.

I think I'd like to keep that chunk of change in my bank account and use it for something more worthwhile.
