Starved Rock State Park Giving Away Firewood For Small Donation
For a small donation, you can get firewood from Starved Rock State Park.
I really like my house but nothing is perfect. One thing I was I had was a wood-burning fireplace in our basement. They are so great to have in the winter.
Growing up, my family had one in our home. My parents loved using it. I remember being so excited as a kid when they would start it up. On a Saturday night during the cold months. My father would get a blazing fire going. We would order pizza for dinner. Throw on our pajamas. Cuddle up on the couch. Then watch a movie. Most of the time I would fall asleep down there. Such great memories.
Since it looks like things won't be getting back to normal anytime soon, we'll be spending a lot of time at home for a while. This winter would be a perfect time for a fireplace.
There was one downfall for having one. That was making sure you had plenty of wood. Some years, it was easy to find. Others, it was more difficult. If you have a fireplace and are in the market for some logs for a reasonable price, you might want to check this out.
According to newstrib.com,
"The Illinois Department of Natural Resources again is giving away truckloads of firewood. Permits are free, but a $10 donation is requested. Permits are available at Starved Rock Visitor Center from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m Monday through Friday."
This could set you up for a while. It's a great way to spend family time.
