Students, athletes, and coaches dropped to the ground Friday night's first week of NIC-10 football.

After much concern from parents and the community, local authorities said the shooting during Friday night near Wyeth Stadium (at Auburn High School) was not on school grounds, but at a nearby intersection. A Freeport Pretzel cheerleader was injured while during a scramble, according to WIFR.

RPS205 has not posted a response to the incident on social media but did release this statement to Rockford media,

Based on information from Rockford Police, the incident was not related to the game, aside from proximity. On behalf of the district, we are extremely disappointed that violence in our community is affecting our schools, students, and families.

A very appropriate response and shared by many in the community but the questions remains of when will the crime subside?
