UPDATE: Rockford residents have informed us that while several media outlets announced that the liquidation sale started today, it's still business as usual at the Rockford location until further notice.

Now that we've had some time to process the fact that a piece of our childhood is going away forever, it might be time to finally say the one thing all parents have been wanting to say since they got word that Toys R Us was closing- "I can't wait for the liquidation sale."

That time has arrived.

According to Eyewitness News, the troubled toy store will begin their going-out-of-business sale today.

Here are somethings you need to know before things get too crazy.

  • Yes, you'll want to act fast, but don't expect the best deals in the earliest days of the sale.
  • The best sales typically happen near the end of the sale, which is expected to be happen in June.
  • There's a good chance you won't be able to return anything you bought.
  • Gift cards. If you have them, use them.

Lastly, please try to remember that while it's sad for you to lose a piece of your childhood, it's even sadder to see people in Rockford losing their job; so if you are making one last trip into Toys R Us, please be kind.
