Gunfire and Chaos: Three Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Incident in Rockford
A chaotic scene unfolded in Rockford as police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Guilford and Mulford Roads on Tuesday evening (10/8).
At approximately 5:00 p.m., officers were flagged down and quickly witnessed a traffic crash involving a vehicle linked to the gunfire and another unrelated car, according to the press release.
3 Teens Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Incident at Guilford and Mulford Roads
The drama escalated when the offending vehicle was identified as stolen and had visible evidence of gunfire.
As officers arrived, multiple suspects ran from the stolen vehicle. Two individuals were apprehended shortly after, while a third was found nearby suffering from a non-life-threatening graze wound.
The police investigation revealed two loaded handguns inside the stolen vehicle, one of which was equipped with an extended magazine.
Serious Charges Filed Against Suspects
Following a review by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, charges were filed against the individuals involved.
Terrance Preshon, 18, faces several serious accusations, including Aggravated Discharge of a Weapon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and possession of a stolen auto.
Two juveniles, aged 16 and 17, were also charged with similar offenses, including possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest.
Teens Reportedly Involved in Robbery Minutes Before Shooting
The incident took a darker turn when it was revealed that just minutes prior, a teenage male was robbed by the same group.
The victim, meeting the suspects for an online transaction, was forcibly removed from the stolen vehicle and partially run over. This then led to a dramatic chase where the stolen vehicle exchanged gunfire with another vehicle in hot pursuit.
All three teens have also been charged with armed robbery, according to the report from Rockford Police.
