Rockford is known as the home of the Rockford Peaches, now it's also known as the home of the International Women's Baseball Center and museum

WIFR reports that the official announcement was made on Saturday, September 3rd, that the headquarters for women's baseball will be across the street from Beyer Stadium where the Rockford Peaches played.

According to RRStar.com "IWBC was created about three years ago with the intent of having a facility that preserves and promotes women's baseball. The nonprofit organization, made up of people from across the country, was based in Cathedral City, California, but didn't have a bricks-and-mortar home." Well now they do, Rockford!

Along with the established headquarters for the IWBC their will also be a museum and research center about women's baseball. The hope is to have the museum complete by spring of next year. Eventually, they're plan is to have a green space next to it which will be used "for batting cages or a warm-up area during tournaments at Beyer Stadium."

Wow! That's pretty cool. With all the sporting teams that Rockford has acquired in the recent years and now with the building of the downtown sports facility, plus more to come to the city, I can see this being the beginning of something good for Rockford.

Rockford is on the path to becoming a sports mecca in the mid-west, possible in the nation.
